This beguiling red Burgundy hails from a small, family-run estate in the North of the Côte de Beaune and is made from pure Pinot Noir that is hand harvested at optimum maturity. With attractive forest floor and mushroom scents and a complex palate of dark hedgerow fruit supported by fine-grained tannins this will make a fine match for classic Gallic dishes such as boeuf bourguignon or coq au vin. Father and son team, François and Pascal Gay are based in Chorey-les-Beaune. Their Aloxe-Corton displays a bouquet of ripe hedgerow berries preceding a sleek palate of rich, dark fruit with a glossy 'cassis' core and pitchy tannins that will soften with age. This wine should age well for at least a decade but is already approachable now - if decanted. Aloxe-Corton: Domaine François Gay & Fils 2019. Domaine François Gay & Fils.
