Famed Bourgogne négociant Stéphane Brocard’s network of growers always comes up trumps – and he’s done an excellent job with this competitively-priced white Burgundy from the Mâconnais. Vinified in stainless-steel to preserve freshness and aromatics, its lively citrus acidity and honeysuckle nose leads to a smooth, round texture and supple stone-fruit finish. Ideal with poultry or buttery risottos. Occupying the westernmost slopes of the Mâconnais, the village of Milly-Lamartine lies in a valley overshadowed by the Cluny mountains. Château de Berzé was built by the Counts of Milly to protect the nearby Benedictine Abbey at Cluny. The fruit for this cuvée comes from the village of Vergisson.From young vines farming using sustainable practices, this lively yet rounded Chardonnay achieves a lovely balance between fresh acidity and a good mineral edge. .
