"Tasted blind. Deep garnet core. Masses of pure vibrant cassis, youthful if not primary. A touch minty/leafy. Finely textured, almost chalky tannins. Fresh and refined in texture with equally refined fruit for harmony. Drink 2027 – 2035. Good Value. 17/20."Julia Harding MW - JancisRobinson.com. One of the oldest properties in Saint-Estèphe, Tronquoy-Lalande dates back to the 18th century and has been owned by a number of proprietors until it was bought by Martin and Olivier Bouygues in 2006. The 2014 blend consists of 56% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and a dash of Cabernet Franc. Unusually for the appellation where Cabernet Sauvignon dominates most of the blends, this Merlot-dominant wine is a result of the high limestone clay soils which drain well yet retain moisture – a characteristic which favours Merlot. The 2014 vintage in Bordeaux was largely cool but a hot September ripened fruit with well-timed showers bringing much-needed relief.Decant when young to give the wine time for its complex aromas of cassis and spice to unfurl.
