Hervé Bizeul makes some superb 'old vine' wines from ancient rootstock - this Côtes du Roussillon Villages is produced from some of the oldest vines on the estate (50 to 100 years old) that grow on limestone slopes. It's a richly-fruited, hedonistic offering with a wealth of black fruit and wild herb flavours with enough tannic structure to support a decade in the cellar. Acclaimed sommelier turned winemaker Hervé Bizeul has shown the heights that can be reached in this fascinating region and produces a range of exceptional wines from 30 hectares. This red is made from a field-blend of Grenache Noir and Lladoner Pelut along with 35% Carignan and 15% Syrah, aged in a combination of cement tanks and used barrels.Restorative slow-cooked daubes and casseroles would make admirable food accompaniments.
