Gewürztraminer is a classic Alsace wine variety that polarises opinion, but this is a very fine example of the genre - spice, lychee, ginger, orange flavours. It makes a great match with the local Munster cheese or spicy food. Gewürztraminer is probably the best-known Alsace wine, and this one from Léon Beyer is full-bodied and well-structured. Its intense bouquet displays rich aromas of fruit, flowers and spices (gewurz = spicy). Powerful and seductive, sometimes slightly sweet, it can often age well. Serve cool (10 degrees C.), as an aperitif or with any rich cuisine, such as strong or blue cheese. It is superb with spicy cuisine like Chinese, Thai, Indian and Japanese.
