It offers a rare glimpse into how unfashionable AOCs in unheralded vintages can deliver unparalleled bargains.Unmistakably a Mediterranean red, this rich, hedonistic blend of Syrah and Grenache from the Hérault is an ideal match for simple, hearty cuisine. Vines have flourished here since Roman times, and the site of the Château was a resting place on the medieval pilgrim\'s route of St Jacques de Compostela. The \'Les Truffières\' Saint-Chinian has the appearance of a claret, but has that opulent, exotic warmth of the south with scents of black olives and the garrigue (\'...like a lusty Pomerol more than a rustic Gigondas\').
