This is a classic, red Beaujolais Villages - a lovely, supple, mid-weight Gamay that's a versatile wine for kitchen lunches and suppers and is best served lightly chilled. Beaujolais Villages accounts for around one-quarter of the Beaujolais region's output and comes from the granitic and schist hillsides of the north.Arnaud Aucoeur's Beaujolais Villages 'Vieilles Vignes' drinks well (lightly chilled) from bottling, but can easily support two to three years bottle age. From 60+ year old vines, this very appealing Beaujolais has bright, Summer berry scents and flavours, with hints of black pepper over a base of ripe tannins. Glad you enjoyed it - the 'old vines' give more depth of flavour so it's a bit of a hidden gem (and cheaper than many Beaujolais crus that are half as good!
