Philippe Collin, the son of a Champenois, makes this superb Crémant de Limoux sparkling wine from 'Champagne' grapes Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The fine mousse and clean finish of this excellent white bottle-fermented fizz belie its Seventies label and humble price tag. If there was a contest to find the most apt wine for the current turbulent economic climate then Philippe Collin's Crémant de Limoux Brut 'Cuvée Sélection' would surely be a contender. Made from a 'Champagne' blend of 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay and bottle-fermented in the méthode traditionelle, it is a versatile crowd-pleasing fizz that belies its modest price tag.With a light, frothy mousse, attractive biscuity nose and crisp, dry, spankingly-clean palate, this Crémant de Limoux Brut is a terrific choice for all the occasions when budgets are abridged but bubbles are beneficial, perfect for all manner of celebrations from the hamster's birthday to the decree nisi being confirmed.
