Hi Jeff, thanks for leaving a review! It's certainly unusual to hear the blades fail at first time. Perhaps you're referring to the protector sleeves on the blades instead? We do advise in our installation guide to remove the sleeves prior to using the new blades, but I understand it's quite easy to miss. Do let us know if you encounter any further issues.
