Aran cardigan decorated with cable stitches in soft merino wool, in a flattering, collared style with side-button fastening. Knitting has been a part of Celtic history, with knitting patterns used by Aran islanders created sometime before 800 ad; the book of Kells includes a picture of an Aran-style knit. Originally worn by fishermen, the traditional Aran stitches have emblematic meaning, the cable stitch representing luck and protection.
