Cards reproducing a superlative selection of British seascapes by J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851). Includes views of Dover and Sheerness from watercolours produced for the ‘Ports of England’ series 1822-28; 'Wreckers - Coast of Northumberland, with a Steam-Boat assisting a ship off-shore', c.1833-34; 'Mouth of the River Humber', from a c.1894 print for the series 'The Rivers of England ('River Scenery'), 1822-26; and 'The Fighting Temeraire tugged to her last berth to be broken up', 1838. Spanning the age of sail and steam, Turner’s atmospheric sea paintings looked ahead to modern Britain and influenced the Impressionist painters. A delightful choice for Turner admirers, these cards bridge past and present.
