‘He has made the cat his own. He invented a cat style, a cat society, a whole cat world. English cats that do not look and live like Louis Wain cats are ashamed of themselves’, H.G. Wells (1866-1946) A charismatic collection of Christmas cats in festive cards, perfect for sending feline felicitations. Reproducing endearing illustrations by Louis Wain (1860-1939), whose signature anthropomorphic feline art became a craze in late Victorian/Edwardian society, appearing in periodicals, postcards and prints. Includes a design of carolling cats, a adapted from an illustration, c.1925-39; a ‘Cat Family Christmas’, c.1900s; and ‘Carol Singing’, c.1925, all by Louis Wain (1860-1939). Plus ‘Christmas Eve Kittens’, adapted from a watercolour, c.1900, by George Hope Tait (1861-1943) and a choir of cats from an illustration by G. H. Thompson for an Ernest Nister postcard, 1904.
