The new mattress may be giving better support, than the old one. Therefore the body can sometimes object to the different feel until it becomes accustomed to it.
This is usually found when the old mattress was a completely different type to the new one, or had lost its ability to support the body properly.
However, this does not mean that the mattress is defective.
