I am sorry that you had issues with the sizing on your mattress.
A 3" gap on the side of the bed does indicate that you needed a 5'3" (or European king size) mattress instead of a standard UK king size (5').
Because the Millbrook mattresses are hand made, there are occasionally discrepancies with the sizing however these are usually a 1cm or so as a maximum and are very rarely indeed.
