Hawthorn hedging is wonderful for wildlife, supporting over 150 species of insects and a host of native birds. Butterflies and bees are frequent spring visitors and from autumn onwards the red, shiny haws are a good food source for thrushes, blackbirds, blue tits and yellowhammers. Hi, Thank you so much for your feedback. I am so pleased you are happy with your new Hornbeam and I hope they are enjoying their new garden. Hornbeam looks wonderful all year round. In autumn the leaves turn brown when the plants become dormant for the winter. The plants hold onto these leaves and once the growing season begins again in spring you will see lots of healthy green leaves pushing through.
