As with all our holidays this route was researched by a member of the Freewheel staff, which usually involves riding most of the distance, checking maps and inspecting hotels. Bratislava is a lovely city, and it's a great place to finish the tour, with a fast hydrofoil trip back to Vienna (1.5 hrs) on the final morning. Phil Cree General Manager Freewheel Holidays

Exceptional circumstances spoiled this holiday. The operator of this Danube boat & bike holiday agreed to compensate clients for a curtailed holiday due to a boat break down. They paid for client accommodation in a hotel. The operator explained to Freewheel that they had announced to clients that hotel bills would be settled direct and deducted from the overall compensation being paid. This was not however the message that was conveyed to clients on board. When our client pointed this out and we had investigated the matter with our operator we had no hesitation in topping up the client's compensation payment to account for the hotel cost. I was pleased to read that, despite the curtailment, this holiday had been a success, that the booking process ran smoothly and the operator's performance was praised. On our Austrian Lakes & Mountains holiday we refer clients to the signposting on the very well marked cycling routes which coincide with around 95% of our route. This removes the need to be looking at maps too often. GPX is certainly something we've considered, but for most people the local signage and our Route Guide seem to suffice.
