Collision Damage Waiver, which I note you say is acceptable, with nearly all car rental companies will still have an excess of anything from £600.00 to £1,200 (depending on the size of car). In Guernsey you can reduce this to NIL whilst in the UK you can only lower the excess to £150.00 for which you will pay £15.95 per day plus VAT.
The full cover in Guernsey with ZERO excess and including cover to wheels, tyres and mirrors is only £8.00 per day, making it extremely good value for total protection and peace of mind. You naturally have the choice not to take this extra insurance to reduce your overrall rental cost should you want to risk not having any damage to the car on return - it is therefore NOT COMPULSORY but advisable. I note that you opted for the extra cover and an additional driver on your rental which together with fuel accounts for the extra charges you paid on collection.
