It is just not possible for Mr Harriss to arrange the list differently as those with particular medical problems such as diabetes or allergies, e.g. latex, automatically take priority. As this is always an unknown, it could only be rectified if Mr Harriss insisted on seeing everyone on a separate date prior to their surgery and we know that the great majority (around 90%) prefer to come for the one visit. Although we do provide bedrooms for relatives, we do not have dedicated guest accommodation and can only allocate patient rooms once they have been vacated by patients which as happened in this case can be quite late if the hospital is busy, and then of course they have to be cleaned. I am sorry though, that it was much later than anticipated. I’m afraid we have no influence over the theatre lists and timings which can change for many reasons over the course of a day. Catherine
