Hi there. We're really sorry to hear that you didn't experience what you were hoping for from your sailing expedition with Rubicon 3 up in Spitsbergen. Being up in the polar regions is a tough and unpredictable area with basically no facilities. This is why it is given our 'Expedition' rating where we stress these factors. We do stress in the kit list to bring hiking boots so it's a shame you had to use sailing boots. That will never be as good. The weather on your trip was grey and rainy a lot of the time and that meant everyone was less likely to head off on longer hikes - but we usually hike for a good hour a day up there and often in wonderful blue skies - these are just the vagaries of expeditions up in the polar regions. Likewise other trips have seen polar bears. It's always frustrating when we don't see one but it is completely out of our control. It does sound like there was a misunderstanding between what we do and what you were expecting and we can only apologise for that. It is incredibly rare for anyone not to love these trips and all other feedback from your trip was really positive. We will of course revisit how we describe these trips and see if we could make anything more straightforward.
