Many thanks for your comments. Unfortunately the gifts on the newsstand copies are often different from those found on subscription copies. It's been a difficult decision for us, as we would love to be able to give our subscribers the same gifts as those given to readers who purchase the magazine in shops.  We made the decision to provide our readers with fact cards each issue, rather than the plastic gifts that readers receive on the newsstand, because of some important factors: One of the reasons is due to increased postage costs with Royal Mail which do not allow us to put large gifts on the front cover of the magazine. We try to combat this by offering heavily discounted subscriptions however we do understand that readers would want the free gifts. We can set up subscriptions so readers receive all the gifts however the cost for this is £50 a year. Recently, we conducted a parents' survey, from which we had more than 1,000 replies. From this, we found that 90% of parents would prefer that there was no free gift with the magazine at all, or that the gift was educational. Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you are unhappy with the level of promotional content featured within your first issue. We do have a popular culture element to the magazine which we feel is important, as not all children are interested in animals or cultures, and this allows us to cater for a wider audience and make our magazines more accessible. We hope those children interested in books, games, films and toys will learn something and take an interest in our other topics and be inspired to care for our world.
