When customers order bulk fabric from us, or any item which requires payment, they can do so in one of two ways. On line - when payment is made it is not taken by us but held in escrow by either Sage Pay or Paypal. We only draw down monies when goods are physically shipped. On the rare occasions when we are out of stock for more than a week or so, it can happen that the payment which has been originally lodged gets cancelled for security reasons in which case we may have to ask customers to re-order so that payment is re-activated. We know that this can be frustrating but it is like this for good reasons. By phone - if we take payment by phone then monies are paid to us as soon as we process payment on the customers behalf. Reason being that we skip the final step of the on line checkout process where customers have to enter 3 characters from their bank password - this is what triggers the escrow payment - however we cannot legally ask customers for sensitive password information and we would never do so. Where possible we do advise customers who wish to pay by phone that we will take monies there and then. Our primary concern is that customers should be 100% safe when making payments to our company and therefore there can be occasions when the levels of security in place can be slightly obstructive. Regarding the sewing comment - all our fabrics are upholstery weight and grade. They are generally considerably heavier and thicker than dressmaking or curtain fabric. If we know that customers are planning to sew our fabrics themselves on a domestic sewing machine, we always advise them to do a few trials first on sample cuttings to be sure that everything will work as expected. There are many types of domestic machine ranging from the very basic (which will in all probability struggle to sew some of our fabrics) to the more sophisticated which are very close to industrial machines (these have more functions such as walking feet etc).
