Thank you for this. The costs involved in sending free samples along with free postage are considerable. We chop up many metres of fabric each week for sampling and of course it would be enormously beneficial to us if a high percentage came back to us for re-use. We have looked into this issue more than once - the problem for us is that if we were to put in a pre-paid return envelope with sample orders then immediately our postage costs would double. We would have to stamp envelopes at full face values as we would not be able to have them pre-franked given that we could not be sure about when samples might be returned. We normally frank our mail which offers some savings on postage which would be lost if we had to use physical stamps. If we could be sure of getting the majority of samples sent back to us then the costs involved would just about add up as we would be able to offset the extra postage costs against having to cut less fabric. However, in order for this to make commercial sense we would need an extremely high return rate (over 90%) and we very much doubt that in reality we would get anything like this - probably we would be lucky if a third came back. We dislike waste as much as this customer does and we wish there was a more simple and viable method we could use, but for now we don't see that we have many options.
