We can't make it as cheap as wood, though I wish we could. The thing is that you have to collect the plastic, clean it, sort it into different types either with expensive machinery or by hand, process it ready for reuse into pellet with a specific melt point, and all that adds to its cost. The saving is in the cost of ownership. Apart from the initial installation there IS no cost of ownership... no maintenance costs or replacement for decades. After about 5 years your savings on maintenance has paid for your recycled plastic and you still have a great looking maintenance free product. Its much cheaper in the long run.
