Good morning Wayne Kindly see below the explanation which explains why the quotes you saw on Hippo.co.za could have differed from the once you actually received. The website gives the consumer the option to select an accurate quote where the ‘ID number’ is required and a credit check is then run, or an ‘indicative’ quote option which only asks the consumer for limited information. If the ‘ID number’ option is selected, Hippo.co.za can use the individuals ID number to provide an accurate insurance quote based on their specific risk profile, which is more accurate than the ‘indicative quote’ option. Our system retrieves quotes, based on the information the individual has entered, directly from our partners/insurers’ systems. Each partner/insurer on our panel require your ID number to run an ITC credit check in order to calculate an accurate insurance premium for you. This is their underwriting rule, and all insurers do this. If you did not provide your ID number, the quoted amount could either increase or decrease. Dear Phillip I struggle to accept your explanation as the 2 insurance companies that contacted me did not ask for my id nr before they provided the quote. The website shows unlimited cover on the warranties section of prices between R162 and R177. Budget and Dial direct contacted me with quotes of R149 capped at R6,000 and R249 capped at R20,000. I mean that is a big differential between uncapped at R160-R177. Rather show the correct values and the fact that is capped. Not sure this is treating the customers fairly...
