We are sorry to hear of your experience with this drill. It’s true that it is a compact drill, making it ideal for small spaces and therefore tradesmen, but at no stage have we ever sold or advertised the drill as heavy duty. Even so, I would expect it to take quite some use and as other reviews are showing it does, so perhaps on this occasion there was a manufacturing error.
Until we have it our end and can assess what has occurred, it would be impossible to say it was unfit for purpose. We do ask customers to pay return postage, but if it is proved to have been a faulty drill, we will always refund this. Makita give a 3 year warranty on their tools, so they are very confident of them, as are we, this looks like one of those very few and unfortunate cases of a manufacturing fault. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
