I am disappointed to learn that I have to pay to join up. I understand the reasoning behind this rule, but it's annoying to have to outlay money without knowing if I will be accepted for a housesit....

There aren't many entries for the area I'm searching, there haven't been any new entries in the past week and people did not reply or read my messages fast. I also find it a shame that there's no map...

Please be patient you will find something but sometimes it takes time. The only real way to get immediate accommodation is to rent.
There is a map function at the top of the search page. Just look for the word "Maps".
