I thought the postage of £8 for such a small package excessive and almost made me cancel the order. I did not need 1st class delivery and would have liked option for a standard delivery as per Amazon...

Postage and packing costs were £7.85, but please remember we have to charge VAT on p&p, so the actual amount we received was £6.54. The VAT goes to the taxman.
The £6.54 is not just the actual postage costs, but also the box and packaging, plus the time of the person who packed the parcel.
We are small, and do not have the clout and buying power that companies like Amazon have. We even pay our corporation tax ;-)

Very fast delivery - good range of products that are otherwise hard to source.
