Not only does it keep your precious beer cool, the Beer Lift is one of the coolest "boys toys" we have seen for a long time. So how does this underground beer store work?Made in Germany (so very high spec and efficient!) the underground Beer Lift is a tough plastic tube, sealed at one end, incorporating a clever "lift" mechanism so that you can effortlessly raise your stash of beer bottles up and out of the ground. Simply remove the lid, turn the handle 45 degrees and watch the cool beer rise up. When not in use, the three trays of beer are pushed back into the ground and totally disappear. Finally replace the waterproof lid and no one will ever guess what is under their feet - 15 bottles of cool beer!The secret of the "lift" in Beer Lift, is a small hydraulic ram (rather like the one on the tail lift of your car) which pushes the inner mechanism up and out of the ground.So how cold will your beer be? Recommended temperature for drinking lager is 6 to 9 degrees and ale is 7 to 11 degrees. Beneath the soil the temperature varies around the 8 to 10 degree mark, so what we recommend is to take the beer from the fridge and then store it underground which will then keep it cooler for longer.This underground beer storage system holds all types of bottle - from stubbies to half litre jobs.To install the Beer Lift, you need to make a hole in the ground 90cm deep and 20cm in diameter. The easiest way to do this is by hiring a 20cm or 8 inch auger. You can use a hand one if your soil is sandy or hire a petrol one to make the job easy. (Our local tool hire centre charge £12 for a manual one or £35 for a petrol one). Simply drill straight down 90cm, insert the tube making sure it is flush with the surface and Bob's your uncle.
