Born in 1951, Richard Spare studies painting at Maidstone College of Art. A master printmaker, Spare has editioned work for many contemporary artists including David Hockney RA, Ryman, Clemente, Sultan, Johns and Haring. He works from his studio in London but exhibits his own work widely, both in the UK and internationally, including Australia, the USA and Japan, where he has had a series of solo shows. His work is held in universities and private collections around the world. Spare’s work was first shown in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 1973, and he has been a frequent exhibitor since.
