Summary The 'standard' magnification for a loupe (for jewellery & gemstones, stamps & coins) is 10X. This one is 15X The diameter of the lens is 12mm* * useable diameter of this lens (allowing for the rim that holds the lens in place) 11.5mm Too see reviews of loupes, click here Detail My personal opinion is that if you want a loupe that is more than 10X magnification, go for a 15X rather than a 20X, and go for the absolute-best quality / smallest lens (this one is 5-element, better than than the usual high-quality 'triplet' lens). It is, however, a small lens. You will always (with any loupe) have to compromise between lens size and optical quality. Technical Magnification / lens size in mm: 15X12 Lens material: glass Lens type: 5-element (i.e. once loupe with 5 lenses on top of each, for best possible quality) Type: jeweller's loupe (small, pocket-size, folds into its metal casing) Origin / brand: we import these from China Casing: metal Finish: chrome Presentation / extras: soft leather pouch and plain cardboard box Further information Everything you need to know about magnifiers and magnification. See information about (and reviews of) loupes (small high-power folding jewellers' magnifiers). See information about (and reviews of) binocular (head-worn) magnifiers- especially the surgeons-type. See a guide to magnifiers for the partially-sighted. See loupes with UV lights. Video (electronic) magnifiers, video magnifiers compared. Products: see pocket microscopes and phone microscopes, click here. With most magnifiers* magnification and working distance are related. Download our Excel sheet, enter a magnification to see the resulting working distance, enter a working distance to see the resulting magnification. * excluding surgeons-type, digital & phone magnifiers, and microscopes.
