Peridot is the gem quality variety of the mineral olivine, easily identifiable by its olive green colours, caused by the presence of iron in the olivine. The birthstone for august, peridot has generally been known as the stone of compassion and is excellent for alleviating jealousy and greed whilst motivating growth and confidence. This oval peridot cabochon measures 6mm x 4mm. Peridot has a hardness of 6.5 - 7 on the Mohs scale and a specific gravity of 3.34.
