The website gives the consumer the option to select an accurate quote where the ‘ID number’ is required and a credit check is then run, or an ‘indicative’ quote option which only asks the consumer for limited information. If the ‘ID number’ option is selected, Hippo.co.za can use the individuals ID number to provide an accurate insurance quote based on their specific risk profile, which is more accurate than the ‘indicative quote’ option. Our system retrieves quotes, based on the information the individual has entered, directly from our partners/insurers’ systems. Each partner/insurer on our panel require your ID number to run an ITC credit check in order to calculate an accurate insurance premium for you. This is their underwriting rule, and all insurers do this. If you did not provide your ID number, the quoted amount could either increase or decrease.
