Thank you for taking my call and explaining why you felt you had overpaid. I understand that you met a couple who had paid £200 per person less than you for a superior cabin. In fact, they had booked some months after you when the Tour Operator had reduced prices to fill the last few cabins. This is quite common practice when there are still unsold places near to the departure date. However, where a particular holiday is filling quickly, it is equally common practice for Operators to increase prices!
The option that everyone has, therefore, is to book in advance and have a guaranteed price or leave it until later and take a gamble on the holiday being sold out or increasing/reducing in price.
I understand that you felt that the cruise company could have offered you a complimentary upgrade to compensate for the price variance, but I queried this with them and they explained that they would normally do this; however, because there were not enough cabins available to upgrade everyone who had paid full price, they considered it would be unfair to upgrade some but not others.
I hope this explains the cost variance and that despite this that you enjoyed your holiday overall.
Kind regards
