Blackthorn is a native, deciduous species, so will have lost their leaves during autumn and will have arrived with you looking rather sorry for themselves. You have ordered so many plants I hope they are all in the ground and are settling into their new home. Golden Privet is a semi-evergreen, which means the plants may lose some or all their leaves during a very cold winter. Lots of new leaves will push through again in spring and in summer they will produce creamy/white flowers that will attract lots of butterflies and bees. Your new plants will really brighten up your garden with their yellow and green variegated leaves. I hope you enjoy your new hedging and the wildlife it will bring to your garden. Your Laurels will knit together to create a beautiful dense evergreen hedge. During the spring they produce tiny white flowers that are popular with butterflies and bees and during winter they produce small red berries that hungry birds love. I am so pleased you ae happy with your Spindle plants and hopefully now the weather is a little milder you will soon be able to plant them. Spindle (Euonymus europaeus) is known for its stunning colours in autumn, in which the bright pink capsules open-up to reveal bold-coloured orange fruits, and the leaves turn from a deep green to a glowing red and the fruits are often retained well into the winter months, even after the leaves have dropped.
