Like you say some of the design mats are gorgeous and look too good to put down and get dirty. But they are there to keep your floors cleaner for longer, and being a domestic machine washable product can be washed as frequently as required. The lifestyle image is demonstrating that the floor is left clean, as the dirt is left behind on the mat. May I suggest that you use an alternative mat from the Classic Collection, maybe with a darker colour for high traffic area such as your back door, and place your new design mat (with the lighter background), in a low traffic area i.e. in front of the sink or cooker.
