Thank you for posting this review and we are very sorry to read that you felt there was not sufficient free time at Pompeii and Herculaneum. This is not a comment our guests generally make as both the sites are so extensive, a guide is needed to ensure we make the most of our visit. Pompeii in particular is a huge site and not easy to get around, so many of our guests would feel a guide was essential. On the Herculaneum day, we have a tight schedule as we also visit Naples, so there is very little free time unfortunately.
We used to include a tour of the Archaeological museum in Naples but due to customer feedback, this was changed to a guided tour of Naples a few years ago, as guests felt that they were only shown the museum while in Naples without having the opportunity to explore the city itself. Seeing the city also adds a bit of variety to the tour which would otherwise be mostly about archaeological artefacts. If guests wish to see the Archaeological museum, then this is something they can still do on their own.
