Hi Jodie Thanks for getting in touch about your lager subscription scheme. The lager and beer clubs tend to be bought as gifts, offering the convenience of choosing when the boxes are meant to arrive. We do offer bigger, ‘one off’ boxes that are more cost effective. We’re not trying to compete with high street shops or supermarkets (although we are happy for local customers to pop into our warehouse and choose their own beer). I can only apologise if you did receive any duplicate lagers, that isn’t what we’re about. Since we started trading in 2011, we’ve worked with over 600 different, independent breweries, so there’s no excuse for sending a beer more than once. While some independent brewers only brew gluten free beers e.g. Brightside and Bellfield, most do offer a GF alternative to maximise appeal. Some major brewers now have a GF version of e.g. Peroni, Stella, Greene King IPA etc. There are two ways of making GF beer – either produce it with a grain like rice or buckwheat, or brew it in the ‘normal’ way with barley or wheat, then add an enzyme that reduces the gluten to 20 parts per million. I don’t know what your experiences of drinking GF beers have been, but huge steps have been taken in recent years to make GF beer taste great. I’m not a coeliac and wouldn’t necessarily seek out GF beer, but it wouldn’t put me off buying it. I’m glad your beers arrived promptly each month, that’s good to know. I hope I’ve gone some way to explain our selections and I've organised to send you a 3 pack of lagers to compensate for the duplicates you received. Kind regards Will

Hi Drinna Thanks for your feedback on our lager subscription scheme. I’m glad you weren’t disappointed with any of the beers and that they were a treat to try. That’s great to hear. I have to confess I’m not aware of the Brewdog lager subscription model, I didn’t even realise they made more than three different varieties of lager, so I can’t really draw a comparison with what we offer. I don’t know what the future of Brewdog will be at present, but they were able to brew on a much bigger scale than the breweries we work with and this would have generated economies of scale. We could never compete with popping to your local Tesco and picking up a 6 pack but we do support British brewing and try to shine a light on the quality vs the price of the product. We also include delivery in the price, which we charge at pretty much cost and when you factor in VAT, the recent introduction of EPR glass tax, the cost of the box and the fact we like to pay our brewers a fair price for their beer, it doesn’t leave a huge amount. I hope this goes some way to explain our pricing.
