Excellent weekend break, with facilities to make it enjoyable for the entire family - adults and children. Really impressed with the accommodation layout - all cottages within 30 seconds of each other with a communal area and garden right in the middle. Lynda was extremely helpful ahead of our arrival and always available while we were there. Couldn't have asked for more.
Lynda was very helpful at all times
This place is utterly perfect!
We spent three nights at the Brambles for my birthday and would recommend it to anyone. Forest Barns is easy to find and Lynda was so welcoming, the welcome hamper exceeded all expectations, with really thoughtful local items, fresh eggs, fresh bread etc. even milk in the fridge and the most amazing fresh coffee!
The Brambles itself is lovely - clean, modern, cosy with everything you could possibly need. It was lovely knowing that Lynda and Geoff were always on hand but we were left to ourselves so could really relax and get away from everything. There were guests staying in the barn next door but we heard nothing but sheep all week even with the Velux windows open to really appreciate the beautiful views.
The 'We wish we had known that' folder provided was a mine of information - even though our weather wasn't the best so we didn't brave any walking, it was clear there was much within walking distance of Forest Barn. Main routes, attractions and several towns are within easy drive despite feeling like you are nestled deep in the countryside.
There is so much to do nearby - we loved our visit to The International Centre for Birds of Prey, Canoeing down the Wye with canoes hired from Wyedean Canoe Hire and an amazing tour around Hopewell Colliery. If you are looking for really incredible food and fine dining then we can't recommend a meal at the Tudor Farmhouse Hotel in Clearwell enough.
Our stay at The Brambles was truly perfect and we are so grateful to Geoff and Lynda for a wonderful break - would recommend to anyone!
Lynda and Geoff were very friendly and helpful. The welcome hamper was amazing - very much appreciated. The kids' farm was lovely - our two-year-old loved feeding the chickens and Carol the rabbit - and overall the cottage/location were beautiful.
Brilliant stay, lovely location and lots of things for the kids to do! Walking in the area is lovely and we even went out on the bikes on day!
We have just spent a very relaxing few days with the kids and the dogs at Meadow Byre. The cottage was comfortable and had everything we needed and the whole family loved making a fire each night!
With the forest at our doorstep, there was always something to do and the trusty games room & swings became firm favourites with the kids in the gaps between excursions
Thanks so much for letting us share it!
Easy to book and Lynda was really helpful answering our many questions about the cottage and arranging for a fantastic catered meal while we were there.
Lovely accommodation, lovely log fire, very cosy barn. Nothing was any trouble with Lynda and Geoff. Genuinely kind people, who made our holiday.. We also had a chef that came in and cooked for 6 of us one evening... It was a fantastic meal and made the holiday special.. Food was amazing..a lovely evening.
Kids loved the outdoors, lots of walks, playing on the swings in the fields and visiting the chickens..
Orchard Barn is a lovely property and was so cosy and relaxing with the lovely wood burner and Christmas tree. With the field attached and so much land to run around in our dog thought she was in heaven. Lynda and Geoff were very hospitable and made us feel very welcome. We would recommend staying here and I'm sure we will return in the future.
It was everything it said on the tin and more. Would definitely recommend and will be returning Caroline Hine
Thank you, we had a lovely holiday. Sorry, forgot to tell you Sarah broke one of the glasses (a flute). Bed very comfortable and loved the shower. Kitchen well stocked and the place was very clean and quiet. Slight niggles - the carpet in one bedroom is very stained (perhaps just a rug over it?). Also agree with a comment in the visitors book that the photo of Orchard Barn is misleading. It looks much more 'on its own'. Would still have booked anyway and would be very happy to come back. Sorry we missed you when we left. Thanks again, it was great.
no need for words - accommodation was exactly what we were looking for.
many thanks from all 4 guests
Excellent service from lovely people, everything was as exactly as stated on the website. Brilliant location and will definitely be recommending to everyone
We have enjoyed a really lovely holiday at The Farmhouse at Forest Barn. It is a beautifully presented, spacious house that looks as good in real life as the photos on the site. The setting is tranquil and peaceful (no busy roads nearby like some places we looked at, just a minor country road down the bottom of the hill that we never heard) and Lynda and Geoff were great hosts.
Several mornings, whilst we packed up lunches for the day etc. our children enjoyed doing Young Farmers, where they looked after the rabbit, moved the chickens to a new hutch, collected eggs etc. - great fun for townies like us!
There is loads in the area for a family to do, Forest of Dean is a great UK holiday destination, I'm sure we will be returning there. Also very much appreciated, and very unusual, was the ability to book as many nights as we wanted to, not to be fixed to exactly 1 week or 2 (we stayed 9 nights).
The Farmhouse is a premium price, but it is a lovely place with friendly, down-to-earth hosts, and provided a very enjoyable holiday.
Adequate confirmation of booking, warm welcome.
A lovely place in a peaceful setting. The cottage is well equipped with a welcome hamper full of local produce on arrival. Fresh eggs for breakfast were very welcome.
Perfect for local walks and relaxing. Not far from local attractions around the Forest of Dean.
Lynda and Geoff were lovely hosts, always on hand if you needed anything.
An Unexpected Journey,
The beautiful cottage is situated in the most lovely spot on the planet! We expected Frodo or Bilbo Baggings to walk into the garden at any moment, whilst sipping our tea! All that you need is provided for in the cottage. The sheep and wild boars were our neighbours for the week. What a week we've had in 'our' little house on top of the mountain!

We had such a lovely time at Orchard Barn, it could not have been better, even the weather held for most of our stay.
The barn was superb and all was catered for without exception, loved the open, very large social area to enjoy each others company without feeling cramped. The rooms were superb and the views were amazing. Perfectly situated for local walks and further afield.
It was so nice to return back to the barn at the end of each day, the peace and quiet, knowing there was always somewhere, inside or outside to relax, read or just enjoy views and nature.
Hopefully we will return again one day
Fantastic service, we were met by the owners as we arrived and they were very friendly. The accommodation was top class with every thing you could ever want in the property. The property was tastefully furnished and very comfortable. Outdoor space was brilliant with views across the valley and a gas barbecue provided. The welcoming basket of goodies was a nice touch and the wine provided for sale if you ran out. We had a terrific week there and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it or go back again ourselves!
A wonderful place away from the hectic pace of modern life and rat-race lifestyle. A truly calm and tranquil setting where once unwound you can really take in all that the Forest of Dean has to offer :-) Very close to walks and the wildlife is on your doorstep. 20 mins to main shops, but a little convenience shop at the end of the road. A wonderful 10 days and could have stayed longer!
Accommodation was clean and very comfortable. Well equipped with everything you would need. Surroundings were beautiful. Peaceful location. Own private outdoor space to sit and dine with an additional grass area for children to play on . Sheep on your doorstep.
The children were made to feel welcome to stroke and feed the animals.
As a family, we felt the games room could be improved.
