Late last year, we announced that we’d achieved our fundraising target of £24,000 for water charity Just a Drop. That money has now been used to fund a sand dam close to Mbasya village in Makueni County, Kenya, which will change the lives of the 2,860 people living there.
Feefo has supported Just a Drop since 2014. We’ve raced through mud, conquered peaks and tackled double marathons to raise money for this incredible charity, which works hard to deliver safe water and sanitation to communities in need.
It’s been tough, but it was worth it. By September 2017, we had raised a mighty £12,000, which was generously matched by Feefo’s chairman, Nick Wheeler, to take the final total to £24,000.
Earlier this year, a few members of the Feefo team flew out to Kenya to see the project in person and to meet some of the people whose lives will be transformed by the new sand dam. The team also visited local schools and communities to discuss and educate the children on the project.
Matt Eames, Feefo CCO, said it was a “huge honour and privilege” to meet those who will benefit from the sand dam.
“We are so thrilled to be part of this worthwhile cause,” he noted. “Feefo remain committed to this cause, and will continue to support Just a Drop. We’re already thinking of the next crazy fundraising challenges we can do!”
Louise Geoghegan, Events Manager at Just a Drop, said:
“For Feefo to be able to see first-hand the huge benefits they’ve brought to the Kyambenzi community in Makueni County was really special. Feefo’s support has changed the community’s lives for the better through the construction of their sand dam.
“They are able to grow their own drought resistant crops and sell the surplus at their local markets, which provides a regular source of income. With access to clean water, the health of the whole community has improved and children can spend more time in school getting an education.
“For Just a Drop, supporters like Feefo are incredibly important, as our work really wouldn’t be possible without such generous support.’’
Of course, the sand dam could never have been built without YOUR incredibly generous donations. If you’ve ever spared a few pennies to support a Tough Mudder run or Three Peaks Challenge, THANK YOU!
