Quena Flute, flute of the Andes and the flying Condor. The Quena is the traditional flute of the Andes in Peru, though it is played all over South America. It has 6 finger holes and one thumb hole and open at both ends. To make a sound the player closes the top end of the instrument between the chin and lower lip and blows downward over the notch cut out. Beautifully hand crafted from wood and benefiting from a coloured or similar style mouth piece for superior sounding. Use: Quena’s are used widely in ritual and ceremony by mountain shamans and local peoples, welcoming you, calling on the spirits and keepers of the mountains and to guide you. Ritual's and shamanic journey's, celebration and communion. This simple instrument is beautiful. It is held in front of the player, has open finger holes, and has two chambers: one for collecting the breath of the player and a second chamber which creates sound. The player breathes into one end of the flute without the need for an embouchure, often used for sacred purposes and rituals. A wonderful flute for any ceremonial practices, journeying, circle gathering, shamanic journeying and music making; a great wind flute with beautiful sounding.
