Peruvian Chinchero hand woven red mesa tie. Woven with the 'eyes of protection'. All that it wraps is protected is the symbolic meaning. Colourful traditional Andean Watanas, or Ties, were used to show love to family members. They were tied into a daughter’s hair, draped onto brides and grooms outfits. Shaman families weave textiles to support themselves and there communities. They do this with deep symbolic meanings that are woven into items specific for use. Ties, cords, mesa ties, wraps are items all made indifferent ways. These textile mesa ties are woven for us specifically at size colour and markings. They have the eyes of protection woven into them and coloured representing the earth and earth mother that holds whats wrapped by them. They are used in many ways by the people. Sometimes as a bracelet. A prayer tied around a mesa, an altar of stones. A tied prayer holding safe. Mesa tie woven by shaman families high up in the Andes. A mesa is a medicine bundle and a tie holds whats in it secure and safe. This is a brown eyes of protection tie that can be used in multiple ways not just for tieing a mesa but to circle an altar, cut down for a wrist tie...
