Inka shamans that live high in the mountains above Cusco the Inka capital standing at 3500m above sea level. Chinchero is at a slightly higher altitude as it passes over into the Sacred Valley passing historic ceremonial sites on the way to Matchu Pitchu. The Qero shaman many of which have relocated down from 'Qeros' high up from Ausangate around 5500m above sea level. Ausangate the Sacred holy Mountain is one of 12 sacred mountains. Some see this as the masculine mountain and others as the masculine held by the earth mother. Its more domesticated, dynamic than perhaps the Sacred Feminine Mountain of Salkanty, which is known for its wild and un-domesticated appearance and feel and said to be the earth mother holding the the feminine mountain. The peoples are born and grow in these amazing unspoilt vistas that are beautiful and harsh at the same time. The traditions are long and wide and weavers work magic into the cloths that can vary from region, village and family. Any significant marks or use will be highlighted at the beginning of the description. General Cleaning: Any subtle marks can be be removed with light cool hand washing with natural soap, wax can be removed with paper and gentle heat using an iron. Wear marks belong to the character of the cloth. Most of the cloths we source are pristine examples. Some will be noted as already mentioned. These cloths all are hand woven from naturally dyed sheep wool by the community. They are made with great symbology, meaning and intent. The cloths are used in a variety of ways, for rituals and ceremonies including holding new-born's safe as they enter this world holding them as they transition into the world. Cloth sizes vary between smaller cloths known as Uncunas or Wachalas and despacho cloths to Mesa / Mestana cloths to Altar or Manta cloths which are much larger. Depending on the use will depend on the size. Generally a small unkuna or Wachala Cloth also known as a small despacho cloth is used inside a Mesa/Mestana Cloth. This represents the inner and outer world. Ours! These types of cloths are woven with key archetypal symbols and ancient traditions culturally and ancestry. These types of cloths are very specific to regions in Peru. Generally Qero Paqo's use these for all there rituals and ceremonies. They wrap key power objects and favoured stones that enables them to relate to something they deem personal and powerful that holds the best stories. Each family and region have a unique way and style of weaving, with these cloths. Some cloths like the Qero Cloths are always made in two half's, which represents the duality, or left and right, masculine and the feminine, duality, the coming together..... The colours and overall make up are unique and individual to the Qero with the symbols and layout being different family to family. For example sometimes the black known as the "pa and cha" or pachamama can be much wider to add a grounding influence while some cloths have very narrow black areas and lots of Inti, the sun the masculine symbols which make it a very busy but powerful cloth. Powerful can be a doing cloth....For some they need "the waters" to temper there fires within and others need to create more fire....Each cloth and the way it is called to you is very unique when you start looking at its symbology!
