Active Pyrenees - Family Holiday

Service
Product

Service rating : They could have offered / made it easier to choose regional flights.
Product: The holiday was excellent and my 10 year old thought it was his best ever, and he has been on quite a few. He enjoyed the company of the other children, felt that the activities were fantastic and exciting. The guides were amazingly helpful and good at handling the sometimes wild children. The week was well-paced, manageable and exciting. Highly recommended holiday.

Western Discovery

Service
Product

Service rating : Overall the service as OK. We had some issues checking information and with hotel bookings. All was handled but didn't leave us feeling confident about our travels. When we arrived at the first hotel we found that the extra night had not been paid, in spite of the confirmation we had, so we had difficulty checking-in and had to call the Peak Travel emergency number. The description of the trip was not always accurate - two nights which were in a Motel and a Hogan were not mentioned. (Last year on an Exodus trip two TAC families turned up without sleeping bags because the TAC information did not mention them). More detailed information would have been helpful and would have prepared us better. When I mentioned this to a rep, they told me to look at the Trek America site. In fact the trip was run by Grand American Adventures. Our passport details were not entered onto the TAC system, I only found this out by chance when I rang to enquire about insurance.
Product: I have submitted more detailed information to GAA who ran the trip and who earlier requested more detailed feedback.

Active Pyrenees - Family Holiday

Service
Product

Service rating : In resort excellent
Product: Overall an excellent holiday - significantly marred by the final day. I think it is unacceptable to deposit us at the airport 7 hrs before our flight home for the convenience of only having to use one coach for in coming and out going guest. We were not aware of this significant time issue until the day before our flight home, if necessary for extra cost we would have expected to arrive 3 hrs or so before flight.
During the long wait I had my credit cards and money stolen ( indirectly a consequence of the longtime - clearly our vigilance decreased and an individual had time to watch and wait for their moment)

Teens on the Trail

Service
Product

Service rating : We had some logistical problems at the front end, including our CONFIRMED hotel for our pre tour stay being changed and not being notified. The company also entered wrong passport information and caused our guide to have to get an amended permit for our Inca trail portion.
Product: Overall the trip was good. But there was A LOT of down time in Cusco. Too much. The white water rafting activity was cancelled and we were not notified or offered another activity.

Service rating : Good information prior to departure. Excellent guide and we'll planned trip
Product: Quite a bit of travelling in minibus but guide made sure broken up with plenty of interesting stops. Would have saved a bit of expense if we had known, given the time of year we were travelling, that we didn't need to bring 3season sleeping bags

Malta and Gozo Adventure

Service
Product

Service rating : Early communication was lacking - they were unable to e mail my g mail a/c but I did not know that so I did not get a confirmation e mail from them. Apart from that everything was fine.
Product: The holiday was fantastic. The activities were spot on - a perfect mix of organised time and free time. I would rather have done the Malta part first before going to the relaxing Gozo. Also the hotel in Malta is not a patch on the hotel in Gozo, and therefore it was hard not to feel a slight sense of disappointment. Had we done the 2 halves of the holiday the other way round then we would have just been even more thrilled with the Gozo visit. Jonny was an excellent guide.

Product: A well organised trip and excellent & knowledgeable guide. Amine looked after us very well. The only down side was the long distances travelled (which i think shoud have been mentioned in the itinerary) though i guess that's the price you pay for adventerous travel!

Land of Smiles

Service

Service rating : Excellent trip. Reminded me why I love adventure travel so much. The Family Adventure Company are fantastic.
Product: Thailand was the perfect Family Adventure destination - perhaps the ultimate balance of adventure and relaxation. Lots of temples + the kids learnt heaps about Buddhism. Hotels exceeded expectation sand all had swimming pools to cool off and relax in. A real mixture of transport - over night trains, cycle rickshaws, tuk tuks, local bus, on foot ...all sorts! Outstanding excursions ranging from monkey temples, to waterfalls to an elephant sanctuary. Plus two days in a village community project and o home-stay in a local house. Simply the best family holiday we have had...

Natural Magic - Family holiday

Service
Product

Service rating : Prompt useful advice in response to questions prior to departure
Product: We wanted a fun holiday for our children aged 10 and 12, with wildlife and jungle, exciting and different, but not too risky. This ticked all the boxes. Everything we hoped it would be. Our Costa Rican guide, Alfredo, was delightful with the kids, very knowledgeable, and really kind. A perfect person to show us this lovely country.

Saharan Sands - Family holiday

Service rating : We booked late and had to make special arrangements for flights before and after the trip. The advice and support we received was excellent. It helped us to identify exactly what we needed to do and indeed did some of the work for us. Actually, what was arranged made the holiday even better. It was really refreshing, as well as helpful, to deal with people who proactively assisted our plans and who clearly knew what they were doing. Everything from the brochure, through the booking process to the actual conduct of the holiday was excellent. When we got home, we all looked at each other and asked ourselves two questions: "why haven't we done that before?" and "When are we doing that again?"
Product: We selected the Saharan Sands family Holiday at the last minute and we chose it because it seemed best to suit our needs. We arrived a day ahead of the rest of the group and had a very nice introduction to the exceptional quality of Moroccan hospitality in a really nice, intimate, friendly hotel. As soon as we met Youssef, our guide for the tour, things just got better and kept getting better as time went on. The Itinerary and choice of locations to visit, stay in and dine at was really good. The cuisine we sampled was inspiring and the hospitality we encountered everywhere was humbling. Our stay at the Jardins de Tazzarine was sublime. The best aspect, though, was undoubtedly Youssef. He had an instinctive understanding of people; group dynamics and especially children. This, coupled with his exceptional cultural understanding and his clear pride in and knowledge of Morocco, made the whole trip seem not like several families and a guide on a tour but like one great big family on a fun-filled holiday. Nothing was too much trouble for him. He knew just when to take the kids off to play when the adults needed some space. He had a ready answer for every question. He could seamlessly adjust his topic of conversation from historical, cultural and philosophical to anything any of the kids happened to ask about or say, according to who was chatting to him. As soon as they met him, he had the children eating out of his hands: we all called him the Pied Piper of Marrakech! Our son was the youngest in the group and on the camel safari, when he was clearly terrified of the camels, Youssef instinctively knew how to make a terrifying prospect into an experience of a lifetime. He rode with our son and they spent the whole trek - out and back - chatting incessantly: they had the best time of all of us, it seemed. It would be fair to say that having a guide of the sensitivity, intelligence, cultural awareness and friendliness of Youssef, not to mention his outstanding English, made our holiday doubly enjoyable. Our son was just so buoyed by his effect on him and all the children that we couldn't but enjoy ourselves: happy child; happy parents. Youissef knew that and made sure that it applied to all of us. The only down-side was saying goodbye and leaving! It was like saying farewell to a close family member and after all the highs we had enjoyed over the preceding week, it was desperately hard to part.
Our holiday was pure magic from arrival to departure. And Youssef.......among all the outstanding experiences Morocco had to offer, he was the real star.

Service rating : The company offers a really appealing range of family holidays. The support service was really personable and helpful.
Product: We have made extensive comment which makes it clear that we had a fantastic holiday. It was everything we wanted it to be and more. Again, we can't say enough positive things about Youssef, our guide. He was the difference between a what looked like potentially great holiday and what was in practice a fantastic experience that our son will remember forever. We can't say enough positive things about him. Whatever ways the company has of recognizing and rewarding excellence, apply them to Youssef Laamimi. Nuture him. Develop him. Reward him. He is really responsible for how the Company is to be judged because of his influence on the actual enjoyment of the holiday. He made it for us.

Tunisian Voyager

Service
Product

Service rating : The overall service from the company in terms of booking inquiries and correspondence was good, we await a response regarding our feedback and complaints however.
Product: These are the points I would like to highlight:

(1) Choice of Flight Operator - Tunis Air is well-known and widely reviewed online as being an airline that is unreliable. We discovered this first hand with delays both on the departure and return trips with minimal apologies or even acknowledgements of the delays from the airline itself. I can accept that these things can happen sometimes; however, we signed up for a family tour and as such, we, as well as others in the group had young children in tow. The delay meant that our arrival in Tunis was late and so our transfer to Sousse was exhausting. The knock on effect meant we were unable to meet the other members of our group properly; make proper introductions between the children who were mostly fast asleep and had to be carried in addition to our baggage; and we awoke tired for an early start in the morning. I am sure you will agree that this was not a propitious start to what was supposed to be a holiday;

(2) Amendment to Itinerary - Whilst we understand and accept the alterations to the itinerary due to UK Government travel advice, I fail to see how the ‘Pirate Boat Excursion’ was an acceptable replacement activity for the type of trip we signed up for. It was clearly a themed activity designed for the tourists of local resorts who seemed quite happy with gyrating, signposted ‘pirates’ on replica galleons that were nothing more than (somewhat) glorified ferries. The trip itself was an exercise in (more) wasted time, sitting around for an hour as the ‘ship’ made its ponderous progress to the bay. Once there, the free time on the beach was fine, as was the lunch however, the slapstick clown show was truly cringe-worthy plus we had another hour of the return boat journey to endure. If we had wanted these kinds of activities, we would have booked with a regular package holiday operator who offers these trips at a fraction of the price we paid for an ‘off the beaten track’ trip with The Adventure Company!

(3) Itinerary - The return journey from Tozeur to Sousse says that we “head first to Monastir” and we “drive via Kairouan”. This implies two stops prior to arriving in Sousse, yet we had only the one stop in Kairouan, which was confusing for us all. The stop in Kairouan was little more than a ‘stretch your legs’ stop, as we were unable to enter the great mosque itself as it closed at 2pm. We then got back on the bus for another mind-numbing few hours of road travel.

I understand that the trip overall was designed to pack in as much of Tunisia’s sights as possible, nevertheless, at times it felt as though we spent more time on the bus than actually seeing or doing things. I feel that perhaps a better balance of travel and activity would have improved this trip, especially with the central desert camping and red lizard train highlights removed. On the whole, whilst there were some interesting and enjoyable aspects to this trip, it was a bit of a let down and I am disappointed that it did not live up to our expectations.

Saharan Sands - Family holiday

Service
Product

Service rating : Perfectly organised with no hiccups.
Product: An outstanding holiday with an outstanding guide, Abdelluh, who understood the needs of the group. We could have coped with a bit more 'adventure' the camp at Tazzarine and in the dessert were more luxurious than we anticipated. The family at Tazzarine were amazing the best food we ate in the two weeks we were in Morocco. I would definitely look to book another holiday in the future.

Feluccas & Pharaohs - Family Holiday

Service
Product

Service rating : Lots of details about the holiday, easy to find information on the website and helpful staff on the phone.
Product: We had a brilliant time. The guide (Ahmed) was very knowledgeable about all the sites we visited and Egypt in general. He made it interesting and exciting for the kids. Everything was well organised and on time. The restaurant Ahmed showed us in Luxor was fantastic - not glitzy or upmarket looking, just really good food.
It's difficult to select a single highlight of the trip, as it was all so enjoyable, from watching the river go by lazily on the felucca trip, soaking up the sun and snorkelling on the red sea, and seeing millennia old temples and tombs. Riding camels and donkeys was great, and climbing the sand dune to see the sun set was breathtaking (quite literally!)

Service rating : Overall a great experience. The local guide was excellent and ensured that everything ran smoothly and a great experience was had as a result.
A few minor points around details on recommended currency( travellers cheques are old fashioned and not a good option) the need to pay to leave the country (not true)
Product: A fantastic holiday. Generally well represented in the brochure to reflect the actual experience. A high quality, local and knowledgable guide was a key driver of the excellent rating. However nearly all the hotels were changed and in the final briefing sent just before the holiday I believe this could have been shared - a miss.
Overall i would recommend the trip and the company.

Good Morning Vietnam! - Family Holiday

Service
Product

Service rating : A few difficulties whilst booking/ since I had a fairly new member of staff who found new costs after we thought we had finalised the price, including having to find alternative flights. The information we were given about the other families on the trip was completely wrong - don't understand why since the other families booked before us and this heavily influenced our decision to book with this company.
Product: The other families really made the trip. Too many optional expenses, particularly in later stages of trip, too much "free time" which basically meant spending money to do an activity with the others in the group. Warmed up to the guide as we went along. The trip itinerary worked well, starting in "cool" Hanoi and move south as it meant we became more used to the heat! The hotels were all clean and in good locations, but there was a huge discrepancy in the accommodation given to each family, some had luxury suites for 2 or 3 whilst others had small doubles. Breakfast varied between hotels but in general was of a good standard. Staff were efficient and polite

Service rating : Excellent customer service and help with arranging alternative flights. Only improvement would have been better advice on malaria tablets. Although they were recommended, on arrival at Chitwan, we were advised that the area has been malaria-free since the 1950s. Everywhere else on the trip was out of the malaria zone.
Product: Had an absolutely fabulous time, guide was great, fun, knowledgeable and porters were extremely well organised. Everyone was lovely.
