Service rating : Following this experience, paying for a holiday we didn't get and the holiday I did get was spoilt by food poisoning. The after care was terrible, by offering what we have over paid, but no compensation for the change in holiday. We had to fight for everything!!! Will never use the adventure company again.!
Product: We paid for this, but never done it. There was no indication that this could be cancelled what so ever.

Service rating : Have given this rating as the actual guides were excellent and made the trip for us -namely Prem Tamang ,Isoor ,Anil .They were all very professional from top down to the porters and all were helpful and kept us smiling even when conditions were tough .The actual lodges and facilities which were given to us via adventure company were way less than basic considering the money we paid and I think the company could have organised better for us .Even small things would have made a difference such as a bowl of hot water to wash in the morning -quilts for bed which in some places were produced from the cupboards -but only when we asked !!Luckily for the company they have very good guides in particular we were mainly with Prem Tamang and Isoor who through their good humour and attitude were able to relate well with everyone in the group and make the whole trip more enjoyable and memorable .As well as this, Prem and Isoor obviously knew trek and mountains very well .Prem had to cope with some difficult decisions in terms of illness within the group members and giving emergency medication from his medical kit .One of the group was so unwell, I believe Prem was thinking of sending him back but it was evening . He had to make some difficult decisions -which he did calmly without panic -fortunately by the morning he had improved .We had 100 per cent success rate for reaching base camp in our group unlike some of the others we met on the way and this I am sure is in large measure due to the skill and experience of our guides .Thank you Prem and all your team .
Product: The Trek itself was fantastic but as mentioned above I think Adventure Company would do well to obtain the views of their customers on small comforts which would add to the experience We went with Audley to Kilimanjaro and were given tea with the wake up call in the morning ! Some of the hygiene and conditions in the lodges were appalling and I think the company should be getting feedback from both their guests but also the guides as to the good and bad points in induividual tea houses .Also as they use these places so much should be able to exert their influence to improve standards .

Service rating : I have had better previous experiences with Adventure Co which were fantastic - including the Base Camp in 2008 so I will tick 'good', but NOT for this holiday. This trip was not up to the usual standard, mostly because of bad weather causing cancellation of flights but it was not dealt with in a particularly effective way and the alternative was very poor. None of the group were even aware that this situation could arise.
Product: Could not fly to Base Camp due to weather and the Annapurna trek which replaced it was poor. I have already been to Base Camp with Adventure Co and so am completely aware of the massive difference in the quality of the treks. We were never informed about the possibility of not even getting to Lukla at the time of booking or in Nepal. The Guide was friendly but not particularly forthcoming with facts. Overall, very disappointed.

Service rating : The company failed to send me any 'final trip' literature/notes
The company failed to give all travellers in our group a realistic figure of how much we'd be spending
The company SHOULD HAVE provided meals as their sister company operating out there does for all their clients
The company should have dealt with us being stranded in Lukla better rather than pass on information informing us to book helicopters at an additional $600 - by ourselves and the 'claim it on the insurance' knowing full well that not a single insurance company would have covered the cost
The company did NOT provide value for money - the porters and guides told us what they were earning and we were all shocked the profit margins the company was taking.
Our accommodation was shocking for most of the trip - we were put up in low budget accommodation that had poor sanitation condition and by that i mean faeces and urine overflowing out of the bowls and over the floor, dead rats in corridors, poor hygiene in the kitchens as my partner - for whom this was a 30th birthday present had severe food poisoning resulting in going to see a doctor at the local hospital.
The whole thing was quite shambolic, we knew that conditions would be basic but we did not expect them to be unsanitary, unhygienic and dangerous. I am bitterly disappointed that a trip that was meant to be a celebration and fun was spoilt by some of the issues we were coming up against during our time out there.
Will never ever book with The Adventure Company again - total waste of money.
Product: The Guide and Porters did everything they could to make sure we were looked after and comfortable. They were hardworking and we repaid their work by tipping them $200 at the end of the holiday - something of which was demanded from us all.

Service rating : Good.
Product: Western style toilets in tea houses BUT no hand washing facilities. Pood thinking on the part of the tea house owners. Also tipping instructions not clear. Do you tip all the porters or the one who carried your bags. Also suspect porters did not get full tip as not given in front of everyone.

Service rating : The AC were very quick at answering any queries which I had and I felt great support throughout the booking and paying process. The only thinkg I'd suggest would be to have some more comprehensive travel notes on what to expect and packing. Perhaps some links to some good blogs? There were a few people on our trip who didn't know you could buy/hire equipment in Nepal or that you could leave stuff in the hotel. I knew this becuase I'd read someone elses blog and then asked the AC if it was possible which they confirmed it was.
Product: It was a great experience! I don't think you'll truly get a good idea of what to expect until you're there. I have never travelled before (other than package holidays to resorts) and so I found the conditions more than 'basic' but I wouldn't have changed it. The whole experience was fantastic, we had the most lovely guides (Nima, Dsanu, Sanjee, Milan and Jagan), we had a good group and it was great to have the Kathmandu free time either side (it made it feel like more of a holiday).

Service rating : The only thing I would change would be the notes on the website regards preparing for the trip. I am a fit person and followed the exercise plan yet I was unprepared for the physical challenge. Speaking to others they recommended swimming to help with breathing, this could be added to the guide to help others prepare
Product: The Himalayan encounters group are experienced and very knowledgable who instil confidence and trust in those they are leading

Service rating : The holiday went smoothly without any problems.
Product: The holiday was amazing! The tour leader - Jagan was fantastic and really looked after us. The assistant guides - Milan, Nima, Sanchez and Danu were all brilliant and helped us along the way. If anyone struggled with their bag they would help. They all made the trip so enjoyable. Without Milan and Sanchez, I would never have made it up Kala Patthar. They were very patient, helped with our bags and always made sure we were ok going up there.
The trip was a hard challenge but the scenery was fantastic and it was worth it!

Service rating : Overall a good trip, perhaps better pre-trip correspondence to help prepare etc..
Product: A good trek, although some of the accomodation was poor even by Nepalese standards. I didn't have much confidence in some of the hygiene standards and was unsurprisingly ill which had a negative impact on my experience.

Service rating : The lack of organisation and communication was poor. I have been on treks before where you get to meet people on the trip in London rather than turning up in Delhi alone and then arriving at Kathmandu still without knowing who is on the trip. At least if you have the option of a meeting place in London you can choose to meet people or wait until your arrival.
When having our first meeting with the guide he told us that we needed a -20 sleeping bag. Luckily I had researched myself and had adequate sleeping bag, but I should have been told this before. The kit list TAC provided was very poor.
The prices for food and water were much more expensive than TAC had mentioned in the trip notes. I should have taken double the spending money for food and water, without any extras. It would have been really helpful to know this before as I had to go without meals, hot water and drinking water on occasion because of my lack of funds. There was nowhere during the trek to get money out apart from the very beginning at a bank in Lukla, but I was unable to get money out because we had been advised to leave our passports in Kathmandu and we needed passports to use the bank.
I felt unhappy being separated from my passport, but it was under the advice of our guide we did so. Thankfully I didn't get sick and need to be air-lifted back to a hospital and separated from my group, but if I had I would have been stuffed.
The teahouses were described as basic. I have stayed in many "basic" hostels and "basic accommodation" in the past. Some of these were far below basic. TAC should state there is no running water to wash hands or body at all in many of the places; No flushing toilets at all or even water in a jug to flush water down a toilet, meaning that if you need to use the toilet you are literally having to squat above 30 other peoples faeces. It was safer to use the great outdoors for toileting, but with no light outside and freezing conditions it was not practical. Natural toilets are very basic, but more hygienic than the make shift toilets provided but these were not readily available. I am fully aware that some tea houses have better facilities and TAC should lean towards these if they wish to continue rating the accommodation as basic. Otherwise TAC should state the actual conditions. The rats running past my head were also a nice touch, although I expect their sleeping conditions were probably more upmarket than mine.
When the planes were unable to fly out of Lukla because of poor weather we had to stay an extra night. The following morning we still were unable to fly and the guides had no back up plan for us to get back to Kathmandu to meet our international flights. We were unable to get internet or phone signal for over 24 hours to contact TAC and there were no notes in the trip notes to confirm if we would be compensated if we missed our international flights, so there was a lot of stress as to how we would get home. Being that the weather is very interchangeable it was very strange that neither the guides or TAC had a contingency plan for this situation. In the end we had to catch a helicopter that each individual had to pay for up front in order to get back to Kathmandu. Being that I was unable to get money out because I didn't have my passport, I was fortunate enough to be able to borrow the money off another group member; however if I couldn't, as a solo traveller I could have been stranded in Lukla for another 4-5 days until the planes began to fly again. As a single blonde female in my 20's, I was terrified of this and completely shocked it was the only option to get back with any chance of catching my international flights home. The guide said there was no way of his company paying the bill up front. I managed to get through to TAC who said they would repay the cost of the flight, but I still had no money. I would like to know what TAC would have done to ensure I met my international flights had I not have been so fortunate as to have been leant the money? I travel with large companies like TAC in groups to ensure my safety as a frequent solo traveller. I did not feel safe being stranded alone in Lukla for an uncertain amount of time.
it was a shame to end such a lovely trip with so much panic and stress which could have been avoided with a little more communication and a simple contingency plan.
Product: EBC was amazing, I would recommend anyone with a good level of fitness and determination to go there. Absolutely beautiful scenic views everywhere you look in the Himalayas with some amazing memories.

Service rating : Great guides & Assistants, very knowledgable and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble and they clearly pay a lot of attention to how you're coping and your health throughout the trip. Can't praise them enough. Only one area for improvement: when flights from Lukla were cancelled and the deadline for the return flights home loomed, there seemed to be a discrepancy between the UK office advice to clients and the Kathmandu office advice (via the guide). This should be clarified as some of our group paid for unnecessary helicopter flights that they may not be able to claim back.
Product: Excellent trip. Hard work, tiring, and completely rewarding! A great and varied experience. Squeezing in so many sights in Kathmandu the day before we flew to the moutains was a bit intense, but the whole of the Everest trek was very well organised and handled.
