the only thing that the devise is a little bit complicated, but that is fine
lots of interesting gear
If I had known it was CARDBOARD I would never have ordered the thing. I am very dissapointed with it
The instuctions are hard to follow and I am having trouble putting it together. It's very cool though. Gets your mind moving.
It was a present, but I'm sure he liked it.
The kit was of excellent quality and the instructions brilliant. Whoever translated them from the German is a true linguist.
The machine is complete and working well although I did have one or two problems.
Firstly, I didn't realise there was protective film on both sides of the transverse bar until afer I had glued on the card disc. But the disc stayed in place with the film stripped off around it.
There was a more significant problem with glueing the large discs onto the two hubs. Despite using the support bench they still were out of alignment when mounted onto the shaft. This meant the two large discs fouled each other when rotated and the resulting friction resulted in the turning handle becoming detached from its shaft.
My solution was to cut an extra plastic disc some two inches in diameter and add it to the ceramic disc already in place betwee the two large discs. I also strengthened the attachment of the turning handle by bolting on a small brass tube flattened at one end then attached to the exising handle with two small bolts and to the shaft with another bolt through a hole drilled in the shaft. This seemed to work and the machine functions perfectly satisfactorily.
The mis-alignment of the two hubs arose because the two ceramic bearing discs whilst being affixed at right anles to the ends of the hub were not exactly directly aligned; hence the hub sits on the shaft at a slight angle.
Perhaps two wooden hubs accurately machined to ninety degrees at each end and supplied with the kit might help with this problem.?
But all in all I am very happy with the completed machine.
Very well thought out product which I will enjoy building.
The installation instructions are incomplete, garbled, and the assembly is very difficult. The parts to be assembled are not numbered. Generally grand-illusions is very keen to the assembly instructions but this time the feedback is totally negative. Sorry about that.
